Mark Stone Appointed to Special Committee Examine Criminal Justice

Media Release from the office of Assemblyman Mark Stone:

October 10, 2013 (SACRAMENTO) – Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez has appointed Assemblymember Mark Stone (D-Monterey Bay) to serve on the Assembly Select Committee on Justice Reinvestment.

“Public safety realignment and prison conditions are important issues to the constituents in my district, so I’m pleased to be part of the discussion,” said Stone.  “This committee will delve into these issues and will work to find solutions.”

The Select Committee will review the current challenges facing the state’s justice system, consider fiscal impacts to the state and local governments, and discuss possible policy changes.  The first hearing will be held on Monday, October 21 in Sacramento.  Select Committees may conduct research, hold hearings on matters of interest to the state, and make legislative recommendations, but they may not consider or vote for specific legislation.

Previously, as a Santa Cruz County Supervisor, Stone was a member of the Santa Cruz County Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council and worked closely with law enforcement officials to reduce recidivism rates. He also played a prominent role in the public safety realignment rollout.
