SLV Students Take Top Honors at County Science Fair

SLV High’s Connor Chesus and Alex Rinkert won Best Overall Project at the 2011 Santa Cruz County Science Fair and nine of their classmates were top award winners at a ceremony last night at the Civic Auditorium.  The pair won a trip to the International Science Fair to be held this spring in Los Angeles.  Their project took first place in the Zoology senior division while second place in that division went to class mates  Kiana Dao and Danielle Eames.  

1st place awards also went to Nettie Mitchell-Brudnick and Brittany Whitehill in the Botany division; Thomas Adams, Zak Wambaugh and James Spriggs in the Environmental Science division and Russell Hovendahl and Devon Northcott in the Microbiology division.  Andrea Bruce and Melissa Makita went home with 4th place in the Environmental division.

Other local students honored (awards and divisions not yet available) were Gordon Amaya, London Bullard, Gordon Garvey, Julianne Glahn, Gillian Largay, and Benjamin Colland.

Congratulations to all these students, their teachers and their parents.  Many of these projects will be on display at the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Symposium April 9 and at the Science Symposium at SLV High School May 26th.
