Late Filings Bring Contested Elections to Local Boards

Previously declared candidacies and some late filings for local and county boards means that the County Board of Education, The Lompico Water District, The Ben Lomond Fire Protection District, and the Boulder Creek Park and Recreation District will all be holding elections this November.

The boards of the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District,  the SLV Water District, the Felton Fire Protection District, the Boulder Creek Fire Protection District, and the Zayante Fire Protection District will remain unchanged as all the incumbents whose terms were up are seeking re-election and are unchallenged eliminating the need for those districts to hold elections.

Incumbent  Aaron Hinde of Bonny Doon will face off against George Martinez of Davenport to represent Area 1 on the County Board of Education.  Donna Ziel and Robert Tosto are both seeking to represent Area 1 on the Cabrillo Community College District Board of Trustees.  In Boulder Creek John Wirth filed papers to challenge incumbent Tess Fitgerald for a 2 year term on the Park and Rec District Board.  Incumbent George Galt and newcomer Dianne Hamilton will fill the four year term seats without facing the voters.

In  Ben Lomond voters will choose among five candidates for two seats on the Fire Protection District Board.  Sue Weber, Morgan Scarborough and Zachariah Schwarzbach are challenging incumbents Dave Bingham and Tom Maxson.

The Lompico Water District will get at least one new board member as Chris Kilgus is not seeking another term.  Incumbent Rob Hansel will be on the ballot along with Shannar Abraham, Sherwin Gott and Sean Wharton.  Voters will choose two for four year terms.  Incumbent  Richard Harrington will return to the board for a two year term as his seat was uncontested.
